Courtyard at Sussex offers three tiers of residential care—Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care—with the clinical capacity to support residents who wander, attempt elopement, present combative or other behavioral issues, stay awake through the night, or require wound care, oxygen management, or special diets. The team is trained to care for adults under 60 and residents managing diabetes by oral medication, scheduled injections, or sliding-scale coverage. Memory Care programming accommodates advanced dementia conditions, and the health services department coordinates closely with primary physicians to keep care plans current.
Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses are on staff, with a nurse on call around the clock. All employees undergo background checks, and an awake night shift monitors secure doors that are alarmed and fitted with wander-guard technology. Emergency pull cords and personal emergency response systems connect residents directly to staff. On-site medical options include visiting podiatry, a therapy room for rehabilitation sessions, and acceptance of residents with psychiatric diagnoses. Full assistance is available for bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting, and staff are trained in transfers ranging from standby supervision to two-person or full Hoyer lift support. A fenced rear area and 24-hour security provide another layer of safety.
Accommodation choices range from studios to larger apartments. Depending on the unit, residents may have a private bathroom, kitchenette, furnished living area, individual climate controls, cable service, in-unit laundry, and the option to paint or decorate. Weekly housekeeping is provided, and laundry service is available for those without in-unit facilities. Independent Living residents can add medication-management monitoring, housekeeping, laundry, and a monthly meal plan to their rental agreement.
Meals follow a set menu prepared by dietary staff, with mechanical-chop, purée, thickened-liquid, and other physician-ordered modifications available. Snacks are accessible throughout the day, and a private dining room can be reserved for family events or care-plan conferences. Special diets required for diabetes management or other medical conditions are coordinated with the nursing department to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Amenities include resident parking, wheelchair-accessible common areas, a barber and beauty shop, exercise room, movie room, internet access, library, concierge desk, communal gardens, and on-site religious services. Transportation is available through a community van and a town-car service for medical appointments or errands. Pets are allowed; it’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
