The Barrington at Hioaks delivers three levels of residency—Assisted Living, Independent Living, and secured Memory Care—on one coordinated campus. Residents with complex medical profiles can remain on site, because staff are trained to address wandering behaviors in the morning or evening, manage elopement risks, monitor those who stay up all night, and provide wound care, oxygen, and specialized diets. The community also accepts adults under 60 and supports every stage of diabetes, including oral medications, injections, and sliding-scale insulin. Its Memory Care program is designed for advanced dementia conditions, helping families avoid disruptive transfers as needs progress.
Clinical oversight is provided by RNs and LPNs around the clock, with a nurse physically on site 24 hours a day. All employees undergo background checks, night-shift staff remain awake, and the grounds are enclosed front and back with alarmed doors and pull-cord or PERS call systems in the apartments. Full assistance is available for bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting, and the team can handle every level of mobility support—from standby help with a walker to two-person or full Hoyer-lift transfers for bed-bound residents. On-site podiatry and acceptance of psychiatric cases reduce the need for outside appointments, while an activity director maintains daily engagement that aligns with each care plan.
Accommodations range from studios to larger layouts; some include private bathrooms, independent temperature controls, and cable service, and residents may paint or decorate their rooms. Because floor plans vary, not every apartment offers every feature, so prospective residents should confirm the exact specifications during a tour.
Meals are served from a set menu in a central dining room, with snacks available throughout the day and staff able to deliver doctor-ordered diet modifications such as low-sodium, renal, or diabetic menus. Independent Living residents can opt for a monthly meal plan and still retain a full kitchen in their apartments. Medication-management monitoring, weekly housekeeping, and laundry service are also available to those in Independent Living, allowing them to choose the level of support that best fits their routines.
Residents have access to on-site parking, a covered drive-under entrance, wheelchair-accessible common areas, a barber and beauty shop, movie room, wellness center, hearing center, library, communal gardens, and regularly scheduled religious services. RUI University hosts continuing-education programs, and the community provides transportation while remaining close to public transit options. Pets are allowed; it’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed. Smoking is permitted outside in designated areas, and reliable internet access is available throughout the building, which has been recently remodeled.
