The Landing Alexandria offers three levels of residential care—Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Memory Care—so residents can choose or transition to the support level that matches their health status and daily-living needs. Assisted Living residents receive help with bathing, dressing, toileting, transfers, and medication management, while still maintaining as much independence as possible. Independent Living residents live in the same community but can add services such as medication-management monitoring, housekeeping, laundry, and a monthly meal plan as needed. The secured Memory Care program is designed for individuals with all stages of dementia, including advanced conditions, and includes structured daily routines and supervision for residents who wander or are prone to elopement.
Around-the-clock clinical oversight underpins every care level. A registered nurse or licensed practical nurse is on site 24 hours a day, with another nurse on call, and all team members undergo background checks. The community is equipped to manage residents who wander during the day or night, exhibit combative or other behavioral issues, require oxygen therapy, wound care, or special diets, and supports diabetic residents whether on oral medications, injections, or sliding-scale insulin. Secured doors, fenced outdoor areas, wander guards, pull cords that alert staff or dial 911, and both awake and asleep night-shift staff enhance resident safety. On-site podiatry, dentistry, audiology, a therapy room, and acceptance of psychiatric conditions reduce the need for outside appointments. Transfer assistance ranges from standby support to Hoyer-lift transfers and bed-bound care.
Accommodation options include studios and apartments that may feature private bathrooms, kitchenettes, independent temperature controls, cable service, and furnished setups that residents can personalize—painting and decorating are permitted. Housekeeping is provided, and some units have in-suite laundry while others rely on scheduled laundry service. Because layouts and features vary, not every apartment includes every amenity, so families should confirm specific details during a tour.
Dining services aim to meet varied tastes and clinical needs. Residents can choose from a set menu in the main dining room or order alternate selections; snacks are available throughout the day, and meals can be delivered to the apartment when recovery or preference makes in-room dining preferable. A private dining room is reserved for family celebrations. The culinary team manages diet modifications such as gluten-free, vegetarian, mechanical-chopped, puréed, and thickened-liquid diets, coordinating closely with nursing staff to align menus with each care plan.
Amenities contribute to day-to-day convenience and recreation. Resident parking, wheelchair-accessible common areas, an exercise room, wellness center, pool, barber/beauty shop, movie room, library, and concierge services are on site, while special-interest clubs and communal gardens encourage social engagement. The community offers transportation options that include scheduled shuttles for medical appointments, a town car, and proximity to public transit; smoking is limited to designated outdoor areas. Pets are allowed. It’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
