Avalon Memory Care – Canongate Drive delivers a single, specialized level of support: memory care. Residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias receive programs designed to slow cognitive decline and reduce agitation. Short-term respite stays are accepted, giving family caregivers a break or offering residents a place to recover after surgery. Diabetes monitoring and management are available, and on-call physicians conduct regular rounds. A licensed speech therapist addresses communication or swallowing problems common in later-stage dementia.
The community operates as a secured environment, reducing the risk of wandering while allowing safe movement indoors and in protected outdoor areas. Care is provided by nurses, medication technicians, and aides trained in dementia interventions. On-site services include physical, occupational, and speech therapy, podiatry, dental care, hospice coordination, and incontinence management. A physician, dentist, and hospice partners visit routinely, eliminating many off-site appointments. All services are delivered inside a setting purposely designed to accommodate memory loss.
Rooms and shared spaces are air-conditioned, and layouts support wheelchair access. Some suites feature roll-in or low-lip showers, grab bars, and bedside phone connections, though not every accommodation includes every option. Residents have access to secure outdoor patios for fresh air and supervised gardening.
Daily meals are prepared on site, and the kitchen accommodates vegan, kosher-style, vegetarian, gluten-free, low-sodium, no-sugar, and organic preferences. All-day dining is offered so residents can eat on their own schedule, and guest meals are available for visiting family.
Residents can spend time in the activity center, attend reminiscence programs, join hobby clubs, use the library and computer lounge, or go on scheduled social outings. Birthday parties and other gatherings provide additional social structure, and staff accompany residents outdoors for supervised walks or activities.
