The Palmettos of Charleston provides both Assisted Living and Memory Care, allowing residents to remain on the same campus even as needs change. Care teams are experienced in managing behaviors associated with wandering at any hour, elopement risk, and the day-to-day monitoring required for residents with diabetes controlled by oral medication. Programming and environmental design support individuals with advanced dementia, ensuring specialized engagement and supervision.
Clinical oversight includes an RN or LPN on staff, an activity director coordinating therapeutic programs, and 24-hour security personnel. Apartments are secured with door alarms, Wander Guard technology, and in-room pull cords that alert staff. On-site medical services cover continence management, occupational and physical therapy, podiatry visits, ambulatory and incontinence care, hospice coordination, medication management, and ongoing nursing assessments. Residents may receive some physical assistance with bathing, eating, dressing, or toileting, and staff can help with walker and wheelchair mobility, standby supervision, or a one-person transfer as needed.
Private and companion suites are available with options such as Wi-Fi, kitchenettes, central fireplaces in select common areas, cable or satellite television, and in-unit washer and dryer hookups. Some residences feature views of landscaped outdoor areas or easy access to on-site parking, while others are closer to the piano and organ lounge. Because floor plans vary, not every accommodation includes every listed feature.
Dining is structured yet flexible. Three chef-prepared meals are served daily, and an all-day dining menu covers late or early requests. Guest meals can be arranged, and the kitchen offers vegetarian choices as well as low- or no-sodium and no-added-sugar options to align with physician-ordered diets and personal preferences.
Residents have access to a barber and beauty shop, wheelchair-accessible common areas, a library for quiet reading, and campus-wide internet access. Pets are allowed. It’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
