About Village at Penn State

from Oasis Senior Advisors

The Village at Penn State is structured as a continuing care retirement community, allowing residents to move among independent living, personal care, skilled nursing, and memory support settings without leaving campus. Licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants are on duty 24 hours a day, with attending physicians making regular rounds and remaining on call for emergencies. A rehabilitation department delivers physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and the health center accepts Medicare for qualifying short-term stays. Advanced wound care, IV therapy, hospice coordination, and secure memory care suites give the community the medical depth needed to manage complex or changing health conditions.

Complementing these core services are features that support daily health maintenance and safety. Medication ordering, packaging, and administration are handled by licensed staff, and an electronic health record system links residents to nearby Penn State Health specialists when referrals are necessary. Routine wellness clinics offer lab draws, vaccination updates, and chronic disease monitoring. An emergency call system in every residence connects directly to the nursing station, while scheduled transportation covers dialysis, cardiology, oncology, and other off-site appointments. Fitness classes, fall-risk screenings, and disease-specific education sessions are provided to help residents maintain strength and reduce hospital readmissions.

Accommodations at this assisted-living facility range from studio and one-bedroom apartments in the main building to larger two-bedroom cottages, as well as private and semi-private suites in the licensed care center. Some layouts include full kitchens, in-unit laundry, walk-in closets, patios, or underground parking, but not all residences have each of these features. Standard safety elements such as grab bars, emergency pull cords, and step-in showers are installed in licensed areas, and weekly housekeeping and linen service are included for every resident. Small pets are permitted in designated units, subject to size and vaccination requirements. It's a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.

Dining services feature three chef-prepared meals each day in the main dining room, with a casual café offering lighter fare for residents who prefer flexible hours. A registered dietitian reviews menus to ensure options for low-sodium, diabetic, renal, gluten-free, and heart-healthy diets, and room service can be arranged during illness or recovery periods. Meal plans can be adjusted for residents who travel frequently or keep irregular schedules, and grab-and-go items are stocked for early appointments. A private dining room is available for family events, and complimentary beverages and snacks are accessible throughout the day.

They have an onsite rehab place called the Atrium. You don''t need it, until you do, and then you find kind and professional nurses and medical staff to get you back to normal again.

The residents here at the Village are all very friendly and professionally experienced in many areas. Communication between administration and residents is poor, maintenance appears to be understaffed. Many thanks to housekeeping and dining room staff...they are stars.
