The Chelsea at Shrewsbury provides a dedicated memory-care program designed for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Licensed nurses are on site around the clock to oversee medication administration, monitor chronic conditions and coordinate with outside physicians, while certified aides deliver hands-on support for personal hygiene, continence and mobility. The community’s memory-care neighborhood is secured to reduce elopement risk, and every resident has an individualized care plan that is reviewed regularly by an interdisciplinary team to adjust for changes in health status.
Beyond direct medical oversight, the community supplies structured cognitive activities, occupational and physical therapy sessions arranged through preferred providers, and regular wellness assessments to track cognitive and physical function. Staff receive ongoing dementia-specific training, and an emergency call and response system is in place throughout the neighborhood. Families are kept informed through care conferences and have access to support groups and disease education resources.
Accommodations include a selection of private and companion suites featuring in-room climate control, emergency response pull cords, and step-in showers with grab bars; some units add kitchenettes, larger living areas or bay windows, but not all accommodations have all features. Housekeeping, laundry and maintenance services are provided on a set schedule, and basic utilities, cable and Wi-Fi are bundled in the monthly fee. Pets are allowed. It’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
Residents receive three daily meals prepared by the culinary team, with menus developed in consultation with dietitians to meet the nutritional needs common in memory-care populations, including modified textures and specialized diets such as low-sugar or low-sodium options. Meals are served restaurant-style in a secured dining room with staff assistance available for cueing or full feeding support, and snacks and beverages are accessible throughout the day to encourage adequate hydration and caloric intake.
