The Residence at Salem Woods delivers three levels of supportive housing—Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Memory Care—so residents can remain in a familiar setting even as care needs change. Memory Care is designed for those living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, while Assisted Living offers daily help for older adults who need a hand with routine tasks. Independent Living residents benefit from a maintenance-free lifestyle with access to the community’s amenities and optional support services.
Comprehensive medical oversight is a defining feature of this community. Nurses are on site and on call 24 hours a day, and every team member has passed a background check. The staff is trained to manage wandering behaviors at any hour, elopement risks, oxygen therapy, and complex diabetic regimens—including oral medications, injections, and sliding-scale insulin. Residents who are awake throughout the night receive supervision from awake overnight staff. Those with advanced dementia can remain in place thanks to secured and alarmed doors, fenced outdoor areas, and in-room pull cords or personal emergency response systems that alert caregivers. Physicians and clinicians visit regularly for podiatry, dental care, and psychiatric oversight. Assistance with bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting is available up to full hands-on help. Transfers are supported for walkers, wheelchairs, standby, one-person or two-person assists, and even bed-bound individuals.
Apartments vary in size and layout, and not every unit contains every feature, but options may include a private bathroom, kitchenette, furnished living space, individual climate controls, and cable hookups. Residents can personalize their surroundings with paint or décor, and staff handle housekeeping and scheduled laundry. Independent Living residents receive housekeeping and laundry services tailored to their program level.
Meals are prepared to order in the main dining room, with snacks available throughout the day, and a private dining room can be reserved for family gatherings. The culinary team manages special diets and texture modifications as prescribed. Independent Living residents can opt into a monthly meal plan and receive medication-management monitoring as needed, ensuring continuity of support without losing autonomy.
Community life includes resident parking, outside smoking areas, wheelchair-accessible common spaces, an on-site barber and beauty salon, exercise and movie rooms, a wellness center, internet access, communal gardens, scheduled religious services, a concierge desk, a library, and local transportation. Pets are allowed; it’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
