American House Freedom Place Rochester is a memory-care-only community designed for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, including advanced stages. The team is equipped to manage wandering behaviors at any time of day, elopement risk, nighttime wakefulness, and various behavioral challenges. Clinical support extends to wound care, oxygen therapy, specialized diets, and diabetic management whether oral medications, injections, or sliding scale insulin are required. The community also admits residents under 60 when appropriate.
Care is delivered under a 24-hour nurse-on-call model, with security staff on site around the clock and in-room alert systems that connect directly to caregivers. On-site professionals include nurses, occupational and physical therapists, a podiatrist, and hospice partners, allowing residents to remain in place even as needs increase. Staff provide full assistance with bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting, and they are trained to handle all transfer levels—from standby with a walker to two-person or Hoyer lifts for bed-bound residents. Medication management, incontinence care, and other high-acuity services are routine.
Living options range from ground-floor suites with private baths to rooms overlooking landscaped gardens, including a butterfly and hummingbird area. Most units offer Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and wheelchair-accessible showers, and several common areas—such as a TV lounge, library, computer center, and central fireplace—give residents places to gather. Respite stays are available for short-term needs. Not every accommodation includes every feature, so touring specific rooms is important.
Meals are prepared by a professional chef and served restaurant-style, with all-day dining for residents who prefer flexible schedules. The culinary program can accommodate pureed meals, gluten-free menus, low-sodium or no-sugar diets, and other physician-ordered restrictions. A café/bistro, private dining room for family visits, and the option to purchase guest meals add variety to daily nutrition.
Throughout the residence, hallways, bathrooms, and common areas are wheelchair accessible, making it easier for residents and visitors to move about safely.
