Independence Village of Petoskey offers both Independent Living and Assisted Living. Residents who need ongoing medical oversight can receive wound care, diabetic management for both oral medications and insulin injections, and support for physician-ordered special diets. The community does not provide care for dementia conditions. A licensed nurse is available on site, and hospice services can be brought in when needed, allowing many residents to remain in place even as medical needs change.
Additional daily-living support is provided by an awake overnight staff. Caregivers can deliver full assistance with bathing, dressing, and toileting, and they give some physical help with eating when necessary. Transfer help ranges from standby supervision to one-person assists for walkers and wheelchairs. On-site professionals such as a podiatrist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, massage therapist, and a team responsible for medication management visit regularly, reducing the need for outside appointments.
Apartments include routine housekeeping, but layouts and features vary, so not every unit contains the same storage, square footage, or bathroom configuration. Common areas are available for socializing or quiet relaxation, and maintenance staff handle repairs to minimize resident responsibility.
Meals follow a set menu prepared by dining staff, and the kitchen can adapt recipes to accommodate diabetic restrictions or other medically prescribed diets. Residents eat in a central dining room, and staff are on hand to provide partial assistance for anyone who needs help cutting food or managing utensils.
Amenities include internet access throughout the building, a library, and an on-site barber and beauty shop. Pets are allowed. It’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
