Avita of Newburyport is a memory-care community designed for residents living with mild cognitive impairment through late-stage dementia. The clinical team is equipped to manage behaviors and medical issues often associated with progressive memory loss, including wandering in the morning or evening, exit-seeking, combative episodes, other behavioral challenges, and sleep reversal. Nurses also monitor residents who require wound care, specialized diets, or diabetic management with oral medications, and the community accepts adults under age 60 when clinically appropriate.
Care delivery is anchored by licensed nurses on site, a nurse on call 24/7, and an activity director who tailors programming to each resident’s abilities. All staff members undergo background checks, remain awake overnight, and work in a secure environment with alarmed doors, pull-cord alerts, and continuous security coverage. Physicians and outside clinicians visit regularly for podiatry and other services, and the community accepts residents with psychiatric diagnoses. Assistance with bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting ranges from standby help to full hands-on support, while transfer options extend from walker supervision to two-person lifts and wheelchair mobility.
Apartments are private and include an en-suite bathroom; select units also provide cable service and the option to paint or decorate the space to personal taste. Because layouts and features vary, not every accommodation includes every listed amenity.
Meals follow a set menu with additional made-to-order choices at each seating. Snacks are available throughout the day, and the culinary staff can prepare texture-modified meals or accommodate physician-prescribed diets.
Residents have access to outdoor smoking areas, pet-friendly policies, wheelchair-accessible common spaces, a barber and beauty shop, exercise room, wellness center, internet service, communal gardens, private courtyards with walking paths, a sunroom, and on-site religious services, as well as scheduled transportation. It’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
