Prairie Hills at Independence offers two primary levels of care—Assisted Living and Memory Care—so residents can remain on the same campus as their needs change. Both settings include access to physical therapy services and scheduled respite or short-term stays. Diabetes monitoring and management are available for residents who need help controlling blood sugar, and speech therapy can be ordered when communication or swallowing issues arise. The community is secured to support residents who may wander, a feature particularly important for those in Memory Care.
Medical services are delivered on site to limit disruptive off-campus appointments. Hospice care can be coordinated when needed, and occupational, physical, and speech therapists hold regular sessions in designated treatment areas. Licensed nurses oversee medication management, incontinence care, and ambulatory assistance, while a podiatrist visits to address foot health. Suites and common areas are designed to accommodate memory loss, reducing confusion and promoting safety.
Apartments feature options such as kitchenettes, wall-to-wall carpeting, wheelchair-accessible showers, and in-unit washers and dryers, though not every residence contains every feature. Select homes are pet friendly, and most have cable or satellite TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and views of the outdoor garden or central fireplace lounge. Common areas include a piano or organ for resident use, outdoor seating areas, and convenient parking for visitors.
Dining is structured yet flexible. Three meals are provided daily with restaurant-style service, and an all-day dining menu covers snacks and lighter fare outside standard hours. Guests can join meals, and special diets—vegetarian, low- or no-sodium, and no-sugar options—are prepared as ordered. The kitchen coordinates closely with nursing staff to support physician-ordered nutrition plans.
Residents have access to an activity center, clubs and communities, and a library and computer lounge that supports email and video calls. Health and wellness programs take place on indoor walking paths and a fitness room, while outdoor walking paths, raised garden beds, and an area marked Allowed Outdoors give residents time in the fresh air. Scheduled happy hours, birthday parties, social outings, dances, karaoke, live music, and reminiscence programs add regular social engagement. Intergenerational programs bring in local youth groups, and the community’s swimming pool and Jacuzzi are available for low-impact exercise. Fitness programs round out the calendar so residents can choose the level of activity that best suits them.
