Bickford of Ames provides two primary levels of care—Assisted Living and Memory Care—within a secured community. Residents who require daily support with personal tasks can choose Assisted Living, while those living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia benefit from a dedicated Memory Care program that is housed in a secure environment designed to reduce wandering and confusion.
Medical support on-site is extensive. Licensed nurses coordinate medication management, diabetic monitoring and incontinence care. Physical, occupational and speech therapists visit the community, and a podiatrist and dentist hold regular clinics. Physicians oversee care plans, and short-term respite stays are available for recovery after illness or surgery. Hospice services can be introduced when needed, and the campus is equipped to handle both ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents. All clinical services are integrated with the Memory Care program, which uses structured routines and spaces specifically laid out for residents with cognitive loss.
Apartments can include central air conditioning, wheelchair-accessible showers, and kitchenettes, though not every unit has every feature. Residents have access to housekeeping, laundry, and all utilities. Pet-friendly policies allow many residents to bring a companion animal, and the grounds feature landscaped walking paths, gardens, outdoor seating areas and convenient parking. A library and computer lounge offer quiet space for reading or internet use.
Dining is provided three times daily in a restaurant-style setting. Menus accommodate low-sodium, vegetarian, kosher, and gluten-free requirements, and healthy snacks are available between meals. The culinary team works with clinical staff to adjust textures and portion sizes for residents who need modified diets.
Daily life is rounded out with organized clubs and community groups, yoga classes, bingo sessions, a fully equipped activity center and regular social outings into Ames and the surrounding area.
