Story Cottage at West Clay is dedicated exclusively to Memory Care and is equipped to serve residents across the full spectrum of dementia, including advanced stages. The care team is trained to manage residents who wander during the day or night, exhibit exit-seeking behaviors, or present combative or other challenging behaviors. Clinical supports include wound care, oxygen management, and specialized meal planning for restrictive or therapeutic diets. The community also admits residents under 60 years old and is prepared to monitor and administer diabetic care whether it involves oral medication, insulin injections, or sliding-scale dosing.
Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses are on-site around the clock, and an awake night shift continuously monitors residents. Doors are alarmed, the rear area is fenced, and pull cords connect directly to staff, providing quick response capability. Background-checked employees deliver full assistance with bathing, dressing, and toileting, while residents who are able can manage their own eating. Transfer help ranges from standby supervision to one- and two-person mechanical or manual assists, and equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs is fully supported. An activity director structures daily programming that aligns with residents’ cognitive levels.
Private and semi-private rooms are available; some come furnished, while others can be personalized with a resident’s own belongings. Certain rooms include individual temperature controls and cable service, and residents may paint or otherwise decorate upon approval. Housekeeping is provided, yet the exact mix of these features can vary by room type and availability, so families should verify specifics during a tour.
Dining follows a set menu designed by dietary staff who coordinate closely with nursing to accommodate low-sodium, diabetic, or other physician-ordered diets. Meals are served in a communal setting to encourage social engagement, and snacks are accessible throughout the day and evening for residents who prefer smaller or more frequent servings.
Common areas are wheelchair accessible, and residents can schedule haircuts or styling in the on-site barber and beauty shop. Secure wireless internet keeps families connected, while a quiet library space and landscaped communal gardens give residents options for reading or supervised outdoor time.
