Story Cottage at Carey Grove provides dedicated memory care for older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. The community accepts residents who wander, attempt to elope, exhibit combative or other behavioral changes, stay awake through the night, or live with complex medical needs such as wound care, oxygen therapy, and diabetes management on oral medications, injections, or sliding-scale insulin. Team members are trained to work with advanced dementia conditions and residents under 60 years old, and special diets are accommodated as part of each care plan.
A licensed nurse is on-site around the clock, backed by additional RNs/LPNs, an awake night shift, and an activity director experienced in cognitive programming. Security measures include background-checked staff, 24-hour monitoring, alarmed doors, pull-cord alerts, and a fully fenced rear area. Assistance is available for full-service bathing, dressing, and toileting, while residents who can self-feed are encouraged to do so. Transfer help ranges from standby supervision to one- or two-person assists and support for walkers and wheelchairs.
Private and semi-private residences are offered furnished, and many include independent temperature controls, cable service, and the option for families to paint or otherwise personalize the space. Regular housekeeping keeps rooms orderly, though not every accommodation includes every listed feature, so it is best to verify specific room layouts during a visit.
Meals follow a set menu prepared in consultation with clinical staff to meet individual dietary requirements, including low-sodium, diabetic, and mechanically altered diets. Snacks are available between meals, allowing residents to maintain stable blood sugar levels and consistent hydration throughout the day.
Residents have access to wheelchair-friendly common areas, an on-site barber and beauty shop, internet connectivity, a landscaped communal garden, and a small library for quiet reading or family visits.
