Amber Glen Alzheimer’s Special Care Center is dedicated exclusively to Memory Care, offering a program built around residents who live with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The community accepts respite or short-term stays, an option that can provide families with temporary assistance while giving the resident full access to the Memory Care program. Residents with diabetes benefit from on-site diabetes management, and a physician is available for ongoing medical oversight. Speech therapy services are also provided, addressing communication or swallowing challenges that can accompany cognitive decline.
The building operates as a secured community, an essential feature for safety in a memory-care-only setting. Care plans may include medication management, incontinence support, ambulatory assistance, and hospice services when required. The environment is purpose-designed to accommodate memory loss, with clear way-finding cues and monitored access points. Residents can receive occupational and physical therapy without leaving the property, and a visiting podiatrist addresses foot health, an often-overlooked need for older adults.
Private and companion suites are available, and each room is air-conditioned with basic accessibility features. Select accommodations may include Wi-Fi, views of landscaped outdoor areas, proximity to a central fireplace, or space for a personal piano or organ, but these options vary by unit and availability. Families are encouraged to confirm which features are present in a specific suite during a tour.
Dining follows an all-day model, allowing residents to choose meal times that fit their routines—an approach that can reduce agitation in individuals with dementia. Three daily meals plus snacks are prepared on site, and guest meals are available so family members can dine alongside their loved one. Nutrition staff monitor dietary needs, including carbohydrate counts for diabetes management.
Residents have access to an activity center, library and computer lounge, and both indoor and outdoor walking paths, including raised garden beds that support sensory engagement. Programming includes Montessori-based activities, reminiscence and sensory sessions, intergenerational visits, clubs and social outings, as well as birthday parties, dances, and live-music events. A swimming pool is available for low-impact exercise, and structured programs are scheduled to promote routine without overwhelming residents.
