Pomperaug Woods is a not-for-profit community that offers both Independent Living and Memory Care. Care plans address the full range of medical needs associated with aging and dementia, including support for residents who wander day or night, present elopement risks, display behavioral issues, remain up all night, or live with advanced dementia. Clinical services cover wound care, oxygen therapy and special diets, and the nursing team manages diabetes for residents on either oral medications or insulin injections. The community also accepts residents under age 60 when appropriate.
An RN or LPN is on duty around the clock, backed by a 24-hour nurse presence, awake night staff and security personnel who have all passed background checks. On-site podiatry is available, and the community accepts residents with psychiatric diagnoses. Staff can provide full assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and toileting, and they handle transfers ranging from standby help to one- or two-person assistance for walkers and wheelchairs. An Activity Director oversees daily programming, and doors and common areas are monitored continuously for resident safety.
Apartments vary in layout, and many feature a private bathroom, kitchenette, independent temperature controls, cable service and in-unit laundry. Residents may paint or decorate their own rooms, and weekly housekeeping is included. Not every apartment includes every feature, so prospective residents should confirm details during a visit. Independent Living residents can add medication-management monitoring, weekly housekeeping, laundry service and a flexible monthly meal plan while retaining the privacy of their own apartment.
Meals are prepared to order three times a day, with snacks always available. A private dining room can be reserved for family events, and the culinary team accommodates diet modifications such as diabetic menus, low-sodium diets and other physician-ordered restrictions. Memory Care residents receive cueing or full assistance with eating as needed, while Independent Living residents who purchase the meal plan can use it at their discretion throughout the month.
Amenities include resident parking, wheelchair-accessible common areas, an exercise room, movie room, wellness center, barber and beauty shop, library, internet access and communal gardens. Residents also enjoy a pool on campus plus memberships at Heritage Village Country Club and Riverwalk Athletic Club. Concierge services, scheduled transportation and close proximity to public transit help residents stay connected to the wider community. Pets are allowed; it’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
