Benchmark Senior Living at Hamden provides three levels of residential care—Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Memory Care—so residents can remain on campus even as needs change. The community is equipped to serve individuals who wander during the day or night, are at risk for elopement, stay up all night, require wound care, use oxygen, follow special diets, or are younger than 60. Diabetes support covers oral medications, injections, and sliding-scale insulin, and staff are trained to manage advanced dementia conditions.
An RN or LPN is on site, a nurse is on call around the clock, and an awake night shift monitors residents in a secured building with door alarms, pull cords, and personal emergency response systems. Care associates offer full assistance with bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting, and they can help with transfers ranging from standby support to two-person or Hoyer lift for bed-bound residents. Podiatry is available on site, and the community accepts residents with psychiatric diagnoses. Background checks for all employees, 24-hour security staff, and an activity director round out the safety and engagement measures.
Apartments vary in layout and features, but many include a private bathroom, kitchenette, furnishings, independent temperature controls, cable service, and the option to paint or decorate for a personal touch; not every unit offers every feature, so it is important to verify during a tour. All living areas are wheelchair accessible, and housekeeping and laundry services are provided.
Meals are served restaurant-style with both set menus and made-to-order options. Snacks are available throughout the day, and the culinary team can modify textures or ingredients to follow physician-ordered diets. Independent Living residents may choose to manage their own medications, but staff can provide medication management oversight and routine monitoring if desired, allowing these residents to maintain autonomy while staying safe.
Residents have access to on-site parking, outside smoking areas, an exercise room, movie room, wellness center, barber/beauty shop, internet, communal gardens, and regularly scheduled religious services. Transportation is provided, and the campus is close to public transit for outings or appointments. Pets are allowed; it’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
