The Sequoias in Portola Valley is licensed as a nursing-home level provider and operates within a continuing-care model that includes independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, restorative nursing care and on-site therapy services. Residents have direct access to registered nurses, licensed therapists in physical, occupational and speech disciplines, and an on-site medical team that manages special diets and blood-glucose monitoring for people who control diabetes with oral medications. Although the campus delivers memory-support programming, it is not equipped to accept residents with diagnosed dementia conditions that require specialized behavioral intervention.
Daily support is structured and predictable. Background-checked staff are on duty around the clock, an activity director coordinates therapeutic engagement, and the property is protected by 24-hour security supplemented with Wander Guard technology for residents who may stray. Certified aides can provide some physical assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and toileting, and they are trained to perform safe transfers for individuals who use a walker, wheelchair or simply need standby supervision. Resident and family counseling, care-plan reviews and regular restorative-therapy sessions are built into the service package.
Accommodations range from studio to apartment-style layouts. Some residences include a private bathroom, a kitchenette and independent temperature controls, and all can be personalized with paint and décor, yet individual units vary and not every unit contains every feature. Maintenance is handled by staff, and housekeeping and linen service are offered on a regular schedule.
Dining is designed for flexibility. Meals can be ordered from a standing menu or requested on demand, with snacks available throughout the day. The culinary team manages physician-ordered diet modifications and works closely with clinical staff to support residents who require carbohydrate counting or texture adjustments.
Beyond clinical care, the campus has resident parking, full wheelchair accessibility and a wellness center that includes an exercise room and an indoor heated pool and spa. On-site amenities extend to a barber and beauty shop, an ATM, a gift shop run by residents, internet access, communal gardens and regularly scheduled religious services. Recreational areas are set aside for woodworking, lawn bowling, shuffleboard, billiards, table tennis, an art gallery, arts and crafts, and a putting green, while the Great Room offers a fireplace, grand piano, game tables, library, guest suites and private meeting rooms. Physical, occupational and speech therapies are available on campus, and staff handle medication management, housekeeping, laundry and scheduled transportation for shopping and medical appointments. Small pets are allowed; it’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
