Brookdale Union Hills is dedicated exclusively to Memory Care, with programs and protocols designed for residents who live with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, including advanced stages. The community is equipped to manage wandering behaviors both during the day and at night, elopement risks, significant behavioral issues, sleep pattern disruptions, and residents who require wound care or supplemental oxygen. Staff monitor and implement physician-ordered special diets, manage diabetes whether controlled by oral medication, insulin injections, or sliding-scale regimens, and they accept residents who are under the age of 60 when appropriate.
A licensed nurse is on staff and another is on call 24 hours a day, supported by caregivers who remain awake through the night. All employees complete background checks. An activity director oversees daily engagement, and safety measures such as door alarms, fenced outdoor areas, pull-cord alerts, and continuous on-site staffing work together to reduce risk. Full-assistance help is available for bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting. Transfer support ranges from standby help with a walker to two-person or Hoyer-lift transfers for residents who are bed bound. On-site podiatry and dental providers visit regularly to reduce the need for outside appointments.
Residences can include a private bathroom, basic furnishings, independent temperature controls, and the option to personalize walls with paint or décor, but specific features differ by unit. Housekeeping is provided, and scheduled laundry services help families stay free of linens and clothing management.
Meals are prepared daily, and residents can choose from a set menu or order alternatives as needed. Snacks are available throughout the day, and the kitchen team accommodates physician-ordered diet modifications, including mechanically chopped or pureed foods, thickened liquids, vegetarian selections, and other special dietary requirements.
Community amenities include wheelchair-accessible common areas, an outdoor smoking area, a barber and beauty shop, a wellness center, communal gardens, on-site religious services, and scheduled transportation for errands and medical appointments. Pets are allowed; it’s a good idea to check with the community during your visit to see if your pet will be allowed.
